> Q: You've studied loons for nearly 20 years.  Would  you say you are
> passionate about them?
> A: Absolutely.  To me, loons embody the essence of "wilderness."   They
> have a lot of spunk, and in contrast to say a goose or a swan that eat
> mostly plants, loons are hunters; they are apex predators.  It's a tough
> life being at the top of the food chain. My spirit is drawn to those
> aspects of a loon that symbolize wilderness, independence and freedom.

Loon Fact:
Loons are on the most highly evolved end of all birds.  They are related to penguins, albatrosses and petrels.
